What’s happening at the MLB All-Star Game?

The MLB All-Star Game is at 8 p.m. on Tuesday, July 14, 2026 at Citizens Bank Park, with official roster information coming in late June or early July.

Dozens of MLB superstars — all voted for by fans and members of the league — hit the field as the eternal rivalry between the American League All-Stars and  National League All-Stars continues. Last year’s reigning MVP was the Philadelphia Phillies’ own Kyle Schwarber.

A young fan watching the game from a shaded section at Citizens Bank Park claps enthusiastically, joining the lively crowd as they cheer on the Phillies. As of May 2026, ticket options are still available — but limited. Full-season ticketholders who already paid in full got first dibs on ticketed access to the big game, and a limited number of partial-season ticketholders also received offers to purchase packages.

Most MLB All-Star Game VIP packages come with tickets to the game and several other perks. For everyone else, resale tickets remain an option on verified third-party marketplaces like Ticketmaster and SeatGeek.

What’s the history of the All-Star Game in Philadelphia?

Philadelphia has hosted the MLB All-Star Game four previous times: 1943, 1952, 1976 and 1996. The former Veterans Stadium was the location for the 1976 All-Star Game, the same year as the country’s bicentennial.

The very first MLB All-Star Game took place on July 6, 1933 in Chicago, as a way to lift spirits during the Great Depression. Since then, the All-Star Game has taken place every July (and twice in August) except for 1945 and 2020, due to World War II and the COVID-19 pandemic, respectively. From 1959 to 1962, two All-Star games were scheduled each year as a way to raise money for the players’ pension fund.

Fans vote for which players they want to see in the game — and the pros themselves vote on pitchers and backup positions. The final All-Star team includes representation from every team in the MLB.
