Last month’s Open Streets transformed Philly’s Rittenhouse neighborhood into a car-free, weekend oasis. June sets its sights on Midtown Village, where pedestrians can shop, dine and mosey along five car-free blocks while enjoying expanded outdoor dining, sidewalk sales and live entertainment.

Shifting to Tuesdays from 4 to 9 p.m. (to accommodate the after-work crowd), Ruas abertas: Midtown Village takes over 13th Street from Chestnut to Walnut streets, Sansom Street between Juniper and 12th streets, plus Drury Street.

After a $25 million renovation, the nation’s oldest zoo reopens its ursine habitat — the new Francis J. Carey Bear Country — now with a new third bear habitat, an extension of the Zoo360 exploration trail allowing the bears to explore (!), interactive educational exhibits and new glass viewing areas where guests can come nose-to-snout with the bears.

The new space also includes digging pits for the zoo’s Andean and sloth bears to forage, a 14-foot climbing structure, and new pools for drinking and splashing.

What started in 1975 with a $100 grant has transformed into the largest African American street festival in North America. The annual Festival ODUNDE returns in 2026 for its 51st year.

The week-long celebration ends on Festival Day — June 14th, 2026 (10 a.m. to 8 p.m.) — filling 16 South Philly blocks with over thousands of attendees enjoying more than 100 marketplace vendors, authentic African, Caribbean and soul food, two stages of live performances, and a procession to the Schuylkill River with offerings of fruit and flowers.

Held in honor of America’s 250th birthday in 2026, this flagship event marks the culmination of Visit Philadelphia’s three-year partnership with Democracia TED.

The Islamic Cultural Preservation and Information Council hosts the day-long, family-friendly free festival celebrating Islamic heritage and culture. Past iterations of the event have featured food, games, speakers, a health and wellness fair, a global open market bazaar and live performances.

One of the Wawa Welcome America festival’s most popular programs — Dias de Museu Gratuitos — kicks off on Juneteenth with free access to the African American Museum in Philadelphia, with this year’s festival featuring no-cost admission to a whopping 47 different museums and historic sites.

New to Wawa Welcome America this year comes a three-day block party in Philly’s historic Centennial District, with different programming each day.

Savor tasty bites from food trucks dishing out cuisine representing the original 13 colonies, take a hot-air balloon ride or zip-line adventure, or just kick back and enjoy the entertainment. Check out the National Liberty Museum’s life-sized replica of the Liberty Bell, interactive exhibits, hands-on workshops and tons of family-friendly activities.

Nights one and two each end with a concert and stellar fireworks show, with day three’s events still TBD.

Seating and admission to the free event is first-come, first-served, with concertgoers encouraged to get tickets ahead of the show from the Dell Box Office.

Listen to Judy Garland’s original recordings backed by the orchestra as you follow Dorothy, Toto and the gang along the Yellow Brick Road as they battle the Wicked Witch and try to get home to Kansas.

John Goberman, the Emmy-winning producer behind Live from Lincoln Center, produces the show featuring newly transcribed scores.
